About Police Prosecutors

Police Prosecutors conduct legal research and determine strategies for presentation of cases to the court on behalf of Victoria Police and victims in the summary jurisdictions of the Magistrates, Children's and Coroners Court. After completing the Probationary period as Constable (2 Years) you are eligible to apply for the Prosecutors Training Course. The course is of eighteen weeks duration - nine weeks of classroom training and nine weeks workplace training at a prosecutions office.

Successful completion of the Prosecutors Training Course can lead to accreditation in the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Public Safety (Police Prosecution) and gives credit for ten subjects in a Law Degree through Victoria University.

As a police prosecutor you have work life balance working office hours with opportunities to work in many different locations and specialties. This challenging and rewarding role will see you present cases to the courts and provide advice on evidence and legal procedures to police. The Prosecutions Division has many challenging roles which include Children's Court, Coroners Court, Research and Training as well as Magistrates Courts. Prosecutions Training can also lead to promotion and other opportunities such as the Brief and Investigation Support Centre.
