A man has died after being shot by police in Footscray last night.
Officers were called to Albert Street to reports of a man armed with a knife about 9pm on Thursday, 17 April.
Two police officers attending the scene found the man and instructed him to drop the weapon.
The man then charged towards the police, still armed with the knife, and was shot by both officers.
The 35-year-old man, of no fixed address, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
Homicide Squad detectives will now investigate the matter with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as is standard procedure for a fatal police shooting.
