Police have arrested and charged a man following the alleged theft of four Olympic gold medals in Docklands last week.

The medals were allegedly stolen from a vehicle parked on Cumberland Street between 9pm on Thursday 6 and 5am on Friday 7 September.

The medals belong to Olympic rowing champion, and member of The Oarsome Foursome, 49-year-old Drew Ginn.

Mr Ginn’s Olympic medals had been left in his car due to a speaking engagement at a school.

Other items allegedly stolen from the vehicle include a Rip Curl wetsuit, a Go Pro camera and Sony headphones.

A 47-year-old Windsor man, who was wanted on warrant over the alleged offending, was arrested by police in Brunswick this afternoon.

He has subsequently been charged with theft from motor vehicle, obtain property by deception, obtain financial advantage by deception and handle stolen goods.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 29 November.

Neither the Olympic medals or any of the other allegedly stolen property have been recovered at this time.

As part of the investigation, Mr Ginn has appealed for public assistance to locate the three gold and one silver medal which he earned throughout a twenty-year Olympic career, which commenced with gold in Atlanta 1996.

Anyone with information that could assist in locating the medals is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
