Detectives from the Financial Crime Squad have charged four men as part of an investigation into an aggravated home invasion in Altona Meadows in January.
Police will allege that four men attended a Victoria Street address around 8.30pm on Monday, 20 January in a stolen vehicle, forcing entry into the property before threatening the occupants.
A man living at the address was assaulted and conveyed to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
A second man fled from the address and was subsequently contacted by the offenders, who allegedly made demands for money or threatened to shoot him.
As part of the investigation, police became aware of a second incident in Shepparton earlier that same day.
It will be alleged two men entered the residential property, causing significant damage, before driving to Altona Meadows to commit the second offence.
Investigators will allege that this offence was carried out upon the direction of a person based overseas in exchange for payment.
Search warrants were executed this morning at residential addresses in Melbourne's west.
Two men, a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old, have been charged with aggravated home invasion, extortion and intentionally cause injury.
The duo will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
With the assistance of New South Wales Police Force, a 19-year-old man was located and arrested in Merrylands, NSW on Tuesday, 18 February.
A 20-year-old man was then located and arrested in Sydney on Thursday, 20 March.
Both were extradited to Melbourne and charged with aggravated home invasion, extortion, intentionally cause injury, burglary, criminal damage and theft of motor vehicle.
The men were remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 13 May.
Police believe the incident was targeted.
