Victoria Police LGBTIQA+ Liaison Officers (LLOs) are a contact point for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and asexual community members.
LGBTIQA+ Liaison Officers (LLO) roles and responsibilities
LLOs work to create mutual trust between police and LGBTIQA+ communities. They ensure we maintain a fair and equal policing service.
LLOs provide:
- non-judgemental advice
- discreet help when reporting a crime
- information about support services
- recommendations to our organisation on the policing needs of LGBTIQA+ people.
LLO’s are committed to building relationships and supporting LGBTIQA+ communities. They do this by:
- completing regular training and staying up to date with current and emerging issues
- considering LGBTIQA+ community perspectives in the review and development of Victoria Police policies, processes, and initiatives
- improving how we respond to incidents such as prejudice motivated crimes
- presenting to social and support groups on the role of LLOs, and how police and LGBTIQA+ communities work together.
LLO Logo
Victoria Police LLOs often wear badges with the LLO logo.
The LLO logo contains the Philadelphia Pride Flag, which represents LGBTIQA+ communities.
Look out for this logo to identify an LLO. You can approach them for support at any time.
Contact an LLO
You can contact an LLO at one of the following locations in your area.
If there are no LLOs in your area, contact your local police station who will put you in touch with the closest LLO.
Alternatively, contact LLO-Coordinator-MGR@police.vic.gov.au with your suburb or town to be directed to your local LLO.
Find your Victoria Police region
Victoria Police serves the Victorian community across four regions. These are North West Metro, Southern Metro, Eastern and Western.
The four regions are shown in the map below.
Community events
It is important to us that LGBTIQA+ community members can hold and attend events safely.
We encourage event organisers to notify us about any upcoming events in advance. This allows you to discuss the safety plans of an event, and helps us identify community engagement opportunities, such as the presence of LLOs.
- For large events and festivals, email the Victoria Police State Event Planning Unit at STATEEVENTS-OIC@police.vic.gov.au.
- For small, local events, event organisers should contact the local police station in the area the event is being held.
If you would like an LLO to attend your event, please also email LLO-Coordinator-MGR@police.vic.gov.au.
For more information on how to plan and organise a safe event, see our events page.
Report a crime
If anyone is in danger, a crime is currently occurring, or you need immediate police attendance, call Triple Zero (000).
If there is no immediate danger, report a crime to any police officer by contacting your local police station. You can also request to speak to an LLO.
See more reporting options on our Report a crime against the LGBTIQA+ community page.
