The Mounted Branch are general duties police officers that focus provide support for a range of policing responsibilities from horseback.

[Sergeant Rachel Dunkinson]: So the Mounted Branch is a specialised unit.
It is actually part of Victoria Police and everyone that works here, while we are a small unit, we are all operational members. So we're the same as general duty members.
But on top of that, we need to be able to do that riding horses.
So we have that skill, and we have all the tactics that goes with that.
First and foremost, what the Mounted Branch does is we go to public order management events.
So most of those will be the protests and the demonstrations that you might see on the news.
But we also do a lot of other things as well.
We go out and we do operational deployments as well where we assist the general duties.
Another part of our job is ceremonial duties.
We also do searches for missing people as well.
And we have all the different tactics and manoeuvres that we learn and train with nearly every day to put into effect to keep the public safe.
So most people here will be allocated a horse.
We like to have a really good combination that know each other really well and they create a bond.
That being said, we and swap where we need to.
So, it's not a hard and fast rule, but we all have our favourites as well that we just get along with really well and we know the job together.
So generally speaking, we do have one horse that we’re allocated to.
It's a great job. We get to work with horses every day.
We’re a really tight knit team, and to come here you have to really care about teamwork, which we do.
We look after each other and we're only as strong as our weakest link.
We are approachable, we like to get involved with the community and anything that they need.
