Victoria Police seeks to reduce the incidence and impact of crime by building links with:
- the local community
- schools and young people
- multicultural communities
- local business and traders
- local groups and support agencies.
Community partnerships
Victoria Police understands the importance of community partnerships in reducing crime and in providing a safer place to live.
Partnerships are achieved through community-based crime prevention programs such as Neighbourhood Watch, Crime Stoppers Victoria and Blue Light Victoria, and a network of full-time crime prevention officers.
Crime Prevention Officers
Each police division has its own Crime Prevention Officer (CPO). The CPO acts as a liaison officer to individuals and community groups. They provide advice and suggest remedies to local community safety problems including:
- consultation with local communities
- analysis of crime trends and statistics
- problem-solving approach to crime reduction
- thorough knowledge of available options and strategies and their appropriate implementation
- relationship management with key crime prevention partners.
